How ERP existed ?

In 1960's MRP - Material Requirement Plan was existing which took care of amount of Raw Materials used in Production etc..

Later in 1970's,

MRP I - Manufacturing Resource Plan was invented to take care of things like Man, Machine, Material, Money etc.. This was one level above MRP.

In 1990's ERP was Introduced

ERP - Stands for Enterprise Resource Planning

Enterprise resource planning systems (ERPs) are management information systems (MISs) that integrate and automate many of the business practices associated with the operations or production and distribution aspects of a company engaged in manufacturing products or services.

Current
ERP Vendors ?

Peoplesoft - Peopletool (ABAP replacement)

MySAP - Company specific SAP Module.

BAAN International.

J D Edwards - These are 3 different people J, D and Edwards

How S-A-P Originated ?

First of all S-A-P is Pronounced seperately with the Letters S , A, P thats why I have added hyphen.

S-A-P AG a German Company was formed by 5 IBM Engineers in 1970's and over a period of 20 years they worked on different aspects of ERP and Came out with S-A-P in the year 1992 with their version SAP R/2.

1992 - SAP R/2
1994 - SAP R/3

Differences in SAP R/2 and R/3 ?

SAP stands for System Application and Production in Data Processing.

R Stands for Realtime.

R/2 Stands for Two tier Architect.

R/3 Three tier Architect.

In a SAP R/2 Architect ,

1 Presentation Server--------
Presentation Server--------Presentation Server
__________________________________________________________________________

2
---------------------------
Application Server
---------------------------
Database Server
---------------------------

SAP R/2 works only on Mainframe Systems.

Database can be supported from other systems if database is as same as the Database server.

For Eg If Sybase is Installed in Database Server than only Sybase Database can interact with Database Server in SAP R/2.

In a SAP R/3 Architect ,

SAP R/3 is a 3 Tier Architect
